Did you catch the insurance fraud intention in the last letter dated April 4, 1967? WTH, brother? LOL!!
As Larry settles into Advanced Training in Alabama, he has nothing good to report. He's hurt, but not sure why. Every other day so far he has written to us and many others, a telltale sign that he is homesick like he never expected. His independent spirit is wearing thin. So much so that even drinking beer doesn't make him feel better.
And - the pressure is on. He never did like school or books, and now he knows if he doesn't do well on his testing he will never become a pilot, but end up as a door gunner. It's the least favorite job on the helicopter. You may hear premonitions, foreshadowing, and metaphors throughout these early letters that come to life in the book, 'Pennies from Vietnam: A Sister at Home, A Brother at War'.
